Privacy Policy

VigilanteDrop (“VigilanteDrop,” “Company,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) operates the Vigilante browser extension. We value your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal information.

This Policy explains how we collect, use, store, disclose, and protect information when you use the extension, our website, and related services (collectively, the “Service”). By using the Service, you acknowledge that you have read and understood it. See also our Terms of Service.

Section 01

Information We Collect

In plain terms: when you open a product, cart, or checkout page, Vigilante reads the listing once as the page finishes loading. Two things go to our lookup service: the page address, stripped of query strings and fragments, and the product’s barcode number if the page publishes one. Everything else it reads — price, brand, seller, images — stays in your browser and is used only to draw the warning card. No cookies, no account, no install ID.

Account Information

VigilanteDrop does not currently offer user accounts. The extension requires no sign-up, no login, and no profile.

If you contact us directly, we receive whatever you choose to send us, which typically includes your email address and the contents of your support request.

Should account functionality be introduced in the future, this Privacy Policy will be updated and the Effective Date revised before any such collection begins.

Extension Usage Information

To identify matching products, the extension reads information present on supported shopping pages, which may include the product title, description, price, images, product URL, and store or marketplace name. This reading takes place locally, in your browser.

Of that information, only the following is transmitted to VigilanteDrop servers:

  • the canonical URL of the product page you are viewing, with its query string and fragment removed; and
  • the product’s GTIN or barcode identifier, where the page publishes one.

If you choose to open one of our recommendations, we additionally record which product page you were viewing and which source listing you selected. We use this to measure and improve the accuracy of our matching.

We do not transmit product titles, images, descriptions, or prices to our servers.

Should the extension begin transmitting a further product identifier — such as the product title or an image fingerprint — this Privacy Policy will be updated and the Effective Date revised before any such collection begins.

Device Information

VigilanteDrop does not currently collect device or diagnostic information.

As with any internet service, our servers necessarily receive the standard technical information that accompanies a web request — such as your IP address and browser user-agent string — in order to return a response and to protect the Service against abuse.

Should we begin collecting device information such as browser type and version, operating system, extension version, language settings, diagnostic information, or error logs, this Privacy Policy will be updated and the Effective Date revised before any such collection begins.

Analytics

VigilanteDrop does not currently operate any analytics or crash-reporting service. The extension contains no analytics software, no telemetry, and no crash reporting.

The extension keeps a local tally of how many recommendations it has shown you and their estimated total savings. This is stored on your own device using browser storage and is never transmitted to us.

Should we introduce analytics — such as installation counts, feature usage, match success rates, performance metrics, or crash reports — this Privacy Policy will be updated and the Effective Date revised before any such collection begins. Any analytics we introduce will be aggregated wherever reasonably possible and will not be intended to identify individual users.

Section 02

Information We Do Not Collect

Unless explicitly stated otherwise in this Policy, VigilanteDrop does not collect or store:

  • credit card numbers;
  • banking information;
  • payment credentials;
  • passwords;
  • login credentials for third-party websites;
  • private messages;
  • email contents; or
  • browsing activity on pages that are not supported shopping pages.

The extension is designed to access only the information necessary to provide its intended functionality.

Section 03

How We Use Your Information

We use collected information to:

  • identify matching products;
  • compare prices;
  • display supplier recommendations;
  • improve recommendation accuracy and our matching algorithms;
  • maintain and secure the Service;
  • detect abuse or fraudulent activity;
  • respond to customer support requests; and
  • comply with legal obligations.

We do not use your information for unrelated purposes without your consent where required by law.

Section 04

Affiliate Relationships

Some recommendations presented through the Service contain affiliate or referral links. If you choose to purchase products through those links, VigilanteDrop may receive a commission from participating retailers or affiliate networks.

These commissions do not increase the price you pay.

Affiliate networks may independently collect information according to their own privacy policies once you visit their websites.

Section 05

Cookies and Local Storage

The extension uses browser storage to save your preferences, your settings, and the local statistics described in Section 1. This data stays on your device.

Our website may also use cookies for functionality, analytics, and security purposes.

Section 06

Third-Party Services

The Service may integrate with third-party providers, including but not limited to:

  • affiliate networks;
  • product data providers;
  • cloud hosting providers; and
  • image and product search providers.

These third parties operate under their own privacy policies. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third-party websites or services.

Section 07

Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not sell personal browsing data to advertisers.

We may share information only in the following circumstances:

  • with service providers that help operate the Service;
  • to comply with legal obligations;
  • to protect our legal rights;
  • during a merger, acquisition, or sale of Company assets; or
  • with your consent.
Section 08

Data Security

We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction.

However, no system can guarantee absolute security. Users acknowledge that all internet communications carry inherent security risks.

Section 09

Data Retention

We retain information only as long as reasonably necessary to:

  • provide the Service;
  • meet legal obligations;
  • resolve disputes; and
  • enforce our agreements.

Information that is no longer needed may be securely deleted or anonymized.

Section 10

Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • access your personal information;
  • correct inaccurate information;
  • request deletion of your information;
  • object to certain processing activities; and
  • request data portability where applicable.

Requests may be submitted by contacting admin@vigilantedrop.com.

Section 11

Children’s Privacy

The Service is intended for adults. As set out in our Terms of Service, you must be at least eighteen (18) years old, or the age of legal majority in your jurisdiction, to use the Service.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. If we become aware that such information has been collected, we will promptly delete it.

Section 12

Browser Permissions

The Vigilante extension requests only the permissions necessary to provide its functionality:

  • Storage — to save your preferences and the local statistics described in Section 1 on your own device.
  • Access to website content — the extension loads on web pages you visit in order to determine whether the page is a product or checkout page. This happens automatically as pages load, rather than only when you click the extension icon, because a product page must be recognized before a recommendation can be offered.
  • Network access to our own API — limited to api.vigilantedrop.com, so the extension can request a match for the product you are viewing.

Where a page is not a supported shopping page, the extension performs no further processing and transmits nothing. Where it is, the extension extracts and transmits only the information described in Section 1.

We do not request permissions that are unrelated to the intended operation of the Service.

Section 13

International Users

If you access the Service from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate. By using the Service, you consent to such transfers where permitted by law.

Section 14

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. When changes are made, we will revise the Effective Date at the top of this page.

Where we begin collecting a category of information not previously described, we will update this Policy before that collection begins, and will provide additional notice or seek consent where required by applicable law.

Your continued use of the Service after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.

Section 15

Contact Us

If you have questions regarding this Privacy Policy or your personal information, please contact us at admin@vigilantedrop.com.

In short

Summary

Vigilante is designed to help you compare products and prices while respecting your privacy. We collect only what we need to find you a cheaper source: the page address of the product you are looking at, stripped of query strings and fragments, and its barcode where the page publishes one.

We do not sell your personal information, we do not collect payment credentials, we do not run analytics or tracking, and we do not access information unrelated to the operation of the extension.
